Natural and Organic Department
Food Lion offers a variety of natural and organic products in both National and Store Brands to meet our customer's needs and preferences. Be sure to ask a store associate if you need assistance locating natural and organic products in your local Food Lion.
To date, "Natural" is only defined for Meat and Poultry items by the USDA, which is a product containing no artificial ingredient or added color and is only minimally processed. Minimal processing means that the product was processed in a manner that does not fundamentally alter the products. The label must include a statement explaining the meaning of the term natural (such as "no artificial ingredients; minimally processed").
Organic certification verifies that products meet all requirements in the USDA organic regulations that specify production and processing requirements, and substances that are allowed and prohibited. The use of most synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, growth hormones, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering (GMOs) are prohibited.
Organic claims are defined and regulated by USDA. "100% Organic" describes a product that contains 100% organic ingredients. "Organic" is used to label a product that contains a minimum of 95% organic ingredients. "Made with Organic" is used to label a product that contains at least 70% organically produced ingredients.
