6 Game Day Recipes You Can Make in Your Slow Cooker

Are you hosting a crowd for the big Sunday night game? You'll need to grab a slow cooker or two to make piping-hot dishes that'll stay that way all day and night. Use mini-slow cookers for warm dips and larger pots for main meals that serve up big batches.

Quick Crock Pot Beer Bread:

No time to bake? No problem. This three-ingredient beer bread stays warm and fresh in the slow cooker. Mix 1/3 cup sugar, 3 cups self-rising flour, and a 12-ounce can or bottle of room-temperature beer. Pour this into a greased slow cooker pot. Brush the top of the dough with melted butter or melted garlic butter. Cook on high for 2 to 4 hours and use the "keep warm" setting on the slow cooker. To make your own self-rising flour, just add 1 teaspoon of baking powder and ¼ teaspoon of salt to 1 cup of all-purpose flour.

Cran-Grape Meatball Appetizer:

There’s no shortage of slow cooker meatball appetizer recipes, but here’s a temping tart-and-sweet twist. Grab packages of your favorite frozen mini-meatballs or make them from scratch if you prefer. Put them in your slow cooker pot. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of cranberry juice, 1 cup of barbecue sauce, and a splash of Worcestershire sauce. For thicker sauce, use 1 to 2 teaspoons of cornstarch. Gently mix in a can of jellied cranberry sauce. Add in a spoonful of grape jelly. Pour this mixture over the meatballs. Cook on low for up to 4 hours for a glazed finish on the meatballs.

Slow Cooked Barbeque Beef Sliders:

Packages of pre-shredded beef make this recipe even easier. Put two or three packages of shredded beef into your slow cooker pot. Add in 1 cup of ketchup, ¼ cup of your favorite barbecue sauce, ¼ cup of brown sugar, a splash of Worcestershire sauce, and salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Mix these well with the shredded beef. Cook on low for 8 hours. Serve with slider buns.

Slow Cooker Pizza Dump Dip:

The key is plenty of cheese – and tortilla chips for dipping – for this recipe. Put into your slow cooker two jars of pizza sauce and any ingredients you’d use to top a pizza, such as chopped pepperoni, olives, mushrooms, bell pepper slices, onions, or crumbled bacon. Cook on low for 2 hours. Then, stir in 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese and 2 bars of cubed cream cheese. Cook for another 30 minutes.

Creamy Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Drummies:

Forget the wings. Go for meatier chicken drumsticks for this spicy recipe. You can use skinless drumsticks or keep the skin on. Place drumsticks in your slow cooker pot. Separately mix together 1 cup of red hot sauce, ½ cup of honey barbecue sauce, and ¼ cup of apricot preserves. Pour this over the drumsticks and mix. Cook on high for 3 to 4 hours or on low for 6 to 8 hours. Add a blue cheese dip on the side by combining chunky blue cheese dressing, sour cream, salt, and pepper to taste.

Sweet Party Nut Crock Pot Dump:

Who knew you could make snackable nuts in a slow cooker? This fragrant recipe beats any pre-packaged party nuts you could serve. To make the sauce you'll use to coat the nuts, mix together 1 egg white, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, 1 cup of white sugar, 1 cup of brown sugar, and pinches of ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground nutmeg, and salt. Add in a couple tablespoons of water. Put all of your unshelled nuts in a greased slow cooker pot. Use a combination of your favorites, including dry-roasted almonds, walnuts, pecans, unsalted dry-roasted cashews, and unsalted peanuts. Pour the mixture over the nuts and toss to coat everything evenly. Add some pieces of butter on top of the mixture. Cook on high for 90 minutes. Open and see if the mixture needs more water and butter to glaze. Cover and cook on low for 20 more minutes. When they're done, don’t keep the nuts in the slow cooker for this one. You'll want to spread them onto a large tray to cool before serving.
