January 24, 2019 | Food Lion
There's nothing like relaxing with a bowl of good ol' chips while watching the big game. But you've just been invited to a football party, or you've decided to throw one yourself. Either way, you need some last-minute appetizers to keep everyone's energy up during the game.
Crowd-Pleasing Chicken Wings
From chips and dip to pizza, the key to game-day appetizer success is food that doesn’t take a lot of time to make. Chicken wings are a great go-to option. You can get them fresh or frozen and bake, fry, or grill them at home or grab some of our freshly made, ready-to-serve wings from the deli.
Besides classic game-day chips and dip and chicken wings, we have some other recipes to check out! Try these other super-simple appetizers that'll have your guests thinking you've been prepping for days.
Creamy Chicken Party Ring
Open two packages of pizza dough, cut them into pieces, and roll each into two-inch balls. Put dough balls in a large bowl. Mix in 2 cups of shredded rotisserie chicken, 1 cup of cooked and chopped bacon, 2 cups of whole milk mozzarella cheese, 1 cup grated parmesan cheese, pepper, salt and garlic powder to taste, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and 1 cup of bottled alfredo sauce. Scoop mixture into a greased fluted tube pan. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes until golden brown. Turn pan upside down, and jiggle the ring out onto a plate. Place a small bowl of heated alfredo sauce into the middle of the ring, cut slices and serve hot.
Pizza Muffins
Grab a tube of pizza crust and roll it out on a floured surface. Use the rim of a glass to cut out 12 circles. Put each circle of dough into a muffin pan opening, and make sure you manipulate the dough to cover the sides of each opening. Sprinkle in mozzarella cheese and toppings such as pepperoni, cooked sausage or bacon, black olive bits, and fresh vegetable bits, and then top with a dollop of pizza sauce. Season to taste. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for up to 20 minutes until cheese bubbles and crust browns.
Potato Balls
To make the balls, mash 6 large cooked and peeled white potatoes in a bowl. Mix in 1 chopped yellow onion, 1 cup of seasoned breadcrumbs, 1 teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon cumin. After combining well, form small balls out of the mixture. Separately, mix a tablespoon of flour with a few drops of water. Dip the potato balls in flour-water, then into remaining breadcrumbs. (If you want a little kick, add red pepper flakes to the breadcrumbs.) Cook through in a pan with hot oil. Put toothpicks into each ball for easy dipping into a hot marinara sauce.
