Stick to your budget, and end any meal on a high note, with this quick and tasty strawberry spoon cake! This affordably casual style of cake requires only a few ingredients, many of which you probably already have at home in your pantry. It’s an ideal scratch-made dessert to serve up with a side of savings at a dinner party, cookout or picnic.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8x8 inch baking dish. Using a fork, mash strawberries and 1/3 cup of brown sugar together in a large bowl until the berries release their juices. Set aside.
  2. Whisk the remaining brown sugar, butter and milk together in a large bowl until combined. Fold in the flour, baking powder and salt until just combined.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Spoon the strawberry mixture over the batter. Top with the almonds. Bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  4. Spoon the cake onto plates. Top with the whipped topping and serve.

Substitute: Use fresh or frozen blueberries, raspberries or blackberries in place of strawberries!
