Delicious! These pockets pack a lot of heart-y goodness in a small package! Note: the amount of beef/cheese in this recipe will create enough filling for approximately 20 pockets; the dough recipe makes enough for 6 to 7. Make additional dough to compensate for the extra filling, if desired, or reduce the beef/cheese ingredients by half if you'd like to make less.

Directions

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef. Add the green pepper, onion, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Continue cooking until the beef is thoroughly cooked and the veggies are soft.
  2. Grate the cheese.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, whisk in the 1/3 cup flour, then whisk in the milk, cream, and cheese. Whisk until the cheese sauce is thoroughly heated and thickened.
  4. Add the cheese sauce to the beef and mix thoroughly. Stir in the chopped bacon. Set aside.
  5. Mix together the warm water, the sugar, the yeast, and the oil. Let it sit five minutes.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix together the 3 cups flour, salt, baking powder and garlic powder.
  7. Combine the wet and dry ingredients and mix well.
  8. Place the dough on a floured surface and roll it out until it'™s approximately 1/8- to ¼-inch thick. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out 12 to 14 hearts (this will make 6 to 7 finished pockets).
  9. Carefully (slightly) flatten the hearts with a rolling pin. Place a bit of the beef/cheese mixture in the middle of one heart.
  10. Cover with another heart and crimp the sides together with a fork.
  11. Brush the hearts with butter or oil, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in a 450-degree oven for 8 to 12 minutes.
  12. Enjoy!
