Need an easy snack to feed a hungry crowd during March Madness? These bite-sized basketball calzones are a fun treat and filled with pepperoni slices and a blend of cheeses, and dipped in your favorite pizza sauce.
Ingredients
Directions
- Roll out the pizza dough to approximately 10 x 14 inches. Use a 3-inch circle-shaped cookie cutter to cut out 12 circles of dough.
- Cut the mozzarella cheese into rectangular chunks (approximately 1 inch long x ¼ inch x ¼ inch).
- On each circle of dough, sprinkle a pinch of Italian seasoning.
- Add a pinch of the grated Parmesan on the middle of each circle.
- Add a pepperoni slice on each one.
- Add a chunk of Mozzarella on each one.
- Fold up the edges of the circles to completely enclose the ingredients.
- Use butter to grease the top and bottom of the cake pop pan.
- Place each dough ball in the bottom of the cake pop pan, then add the top of the pan and secure the latches.
- Bake in a 400-degree oven for 15 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and allow the calzones to cool for approximately 10 minutes. Remove the calzones from the pan. (If any excess dough has leaked out, trim it off.)
- Use your food coloring pen to draw basketball lines (refer to a photo of a basketball if needed) on each calzone.
- In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with orange food coloring until the butter turns orange.
- Roll each calzone in the orange-colored butter. Refrigerate until serving.
- Prior to serving, place the basketball calzones on a cookie sheet and bake in a 350-degree F oven for around 10 minutes to warm them up.
- Serve with your favorite pizza sauce (warmed up).
