Let’s End Child Hunger

One in 6 children in America lives with hunger.

Here at Food Lion, we believe that no child should go hungry, and that’s why we’re so committed to ending child hunger in the towns and cities we serve through Food Lion Feeds.

Recently, when we announced our new commitment to donate one billion more meals we also unveiled a new partnership with  No Kid Hungry® to specifically focus on combating food insecurity among our youngest neighbors. No Kid Hungry is a campaign to end childhood hunger in America by connecting kids in need to effective programs that provide them with three meals a day.

This partnership will help reduce the gap between the number of school children who are eligible to receive free school breakfast and those children who receive the meal. Why is this important? Because it’s a fact that when kids start their day with a healthy breakfast, they do better on tests, have fewer discipline problems, have fewer health problems, and are more likely to graduate from high school.

Through a series of grants to establish new school breakfast programs across Food Lion’s 10 state operating area, we are joining with No Kid Hungry and their partners to shrink the meal gap and make a difference for hungry children across the towns and cities we serve. The series of grants is enough for No Kid Hungry to provide up to five million meals* to kids in need.

“One in six kids in America will face hunger this year,” said Jill Davis, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for Share Our Strength, the organization behind the No Kid Hungry campaign. “No Kid Hungry is committed to feeding those children so that they can reach their full potential. And through partnerships with companies like Food Lion, we are one step closer to achieving no kid hungry.”

By allowing students to focus on learning, and not where their next meal will come from, we are addressing one of the root causes of hunger, and not simply providing a meal for a day.

By helping to build this strong foundation in our communities, we know we can make a big impact in ending hunger in the towns and cities we serve, but we need you to join us.

We are committed to nourishing our neighbors and setting them up for success in life, and we look forward to joining with efforts like No Kid Hungry, our customers and our communities to make a difference in the lives of our youngest neighbors.

*$1 can provide up to 10 meals. Learn more at NoKidHungry.org/onedollar.
