If your family is like many others, you eat homemade pizza and bread throughout the year. Here are some tips for keeping the heat outside during the summer months by cooking these favorites on the grill.

You can actually obtain a crispier pizza and more flavorful bread by using an outdoor grill instead of a kitchen oven, according to The Kitchn. That's because the grill reaches higher temperatures.

Cooking Pizza on the Grill

Here's how to make pizza on the grill. First, line up all ingredients — including your round of dough, olive oil, cheese, meat, and veggie toppings — along with metal tongs, a metal spatula, and a cooking brush in a place near the grill.

Preheat the grill to about 550–600 degrees Fahrenheit. Brush one side of your pizza round with oil and place it on the grill with the oiled side down. Cook the dough for 3 minutes with the lid off, or 1–2 minutes with the lid on. Flip the dough over and quickly layer your tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings. Don't load up the pizza too much, or else it'll take longer to cook through.

Lower the hood and cook your pizza for another 3–5 minutes, checking it frequently. Presto! Scrumptious pizza!

Bread on the Grill

It isn't that difficult to bake unkneaded bread on the grill. With the lid down, preheat the grill to between 450 and 500 degrees. Remove the lid, place a cast-iron pot on the grill, put the lid back on, and preheat the pot for about 15 minutes, according to The Kitchn.

Then remove the lid, sprinkle in a handful of cornmeal, place your bread dough in the pot, and put the lid back on. Bake the bread for 30–40 minutes, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 210 degrees.

Garlic Bread on the Grill

You can also make grilled garlic bread from store-bought Italian bread. To do so, preheat the grill and cut the bread into eight slices that are 1/4-inch thick, according to the Food Network.

Combine one stick of butter with six cloves of roasted garlic. Spread one tablespoon of this mixture on top of each slice.

Grill the bread butter-side down until golden. Lastly, turn the slices over, sprinkle with finely chopped parsley, and grill for another 20 seconds. Yum!
