Show your kids’ teachers how much you appreciate what they do for your family by giving one of these thoughtful gifts during Teacher Appreciation Week. You can find all the supplies you need at your local Food Lion while saving money through our MVP Program and weekly specials.

1. Healthy Snack Basket

Whether joining in on the playground fun or standing on their feet writing out math problems, teachers use a lot of energy throughout the day. A healthy snack pick-me-up can be a real lifesaver. Choose a few quick and easy snack items like dried nuts, whole-wheat crackers and a mix of fruits, such as apples, oranges and bananas. Package these in a bowl, basket or even a storage container and add a gift tag from your child to make your snack basket complete.

2. Symbolic Flower Bouquet

Flowers are always a nice gift, but you can make your teacher’s bouquet extra special by thoughtfully selecting each flower in the arrangement. Colorful gerbera daisies represent cheerfulness, making them a great choice for teachers who bring a smile to your child’s face every day. Purple iris, which represents wisdom, is an easy choice for teachers. What better way to show appreciation for your child's teacher than with dark pink roses, which represent gratitude. Whichever flowers you choose, be sure to note their significance in the card you attach to your bouquet.

3. A Twist on the Classic Apple

Apples are an iconic gift for teachers, and if you love to bake, you can take things a step further. Bake up some delicious apple turnovers using puff pastry or pie crust and fresh apples. Use plastic wrap to individually package each turnover and place each one inside a coffee filter to give the presentation something extra. You can use ribbon or a small scrap of fabric to tie a bow around each and put them in a small basket with a card.

4. Special Surprise Greeting Card

Give your greeting card a boost by including a gift card inside along with a message of gratitude. Simply slip it inside the envelope with the card, or create a little card holder inside using decorative paper and glue or Washi tape.

5. Sweet Sentiments and Treats

If you want to keep it simple and personal, pick out some delicious candies or a high-quality chocolate bar and present them in a gift bag with a nice letter detailing how much you appreciate everything your child’s teacher does. Give specific examples of things you’ve noticed and ways your child’s performance in school has improved. And if you want to really give your teacher a boost, send a copy of the letter to the principal or headmaster.
